Environmental assessment
Environmental assessment
On 26 July 2010 Orica received approval to construct and operate an ammonium nitrate emulsion (ANE) plant on its existing site near Kurri Kurri, NSW. This facility will produce up to 250,000 tonnes of ANE per annum for use in the mining and quarry sector in South Eastern Australia.
Construction on the project commenced in late 2010, with the plant due to commence operation during the first quarter of 2012. The construction is required to strictly adhere to a Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) to avoid negative environmental impacts.
The Project Approval required the development of a number of plans to manage hazards associated with the construction and operation of the plant. For further details see the documents provided below.
As a condition of consent Orica has committed to maintaining a Biodiversity Offset Area in place of the land cleared for construction. The Biodiversity Offset Area covers 31.7ha and commits Orica to long term management of this area.
