Decarbonisation Pathway
Our 2030 decarbonisation pathway
Our 2030 decarbonisation pathway
Achieving net zero by 2050 will depend on the continued maturation and deployment of low‑carbon technologies, supported by global climate policies that create the right incentives for industry to transition. Our 2030 pathway reflects the technologies available today, while preparing for the next wave of innovations needed to decarbonise a hard‑to‑abate sector.

Reducing emissions across our value chain
Reducing emissions across our value chain
Our framework for value‑chain decarbonisation framework is built around three core principles, control, partner and influence. This enables us to reduce emissions where we have direct levers, collaborate where joint action is required, and encourage broader progress across the sectors we operate in.

Ensuring integrity in carbon markets
Ensuring integrity in carbon markets
Orica is committed to sourcing high‑quality carbon credits that meet reputable, independently verified standards. We prioritise offsets that are real, additional, measurable and permanent, and that avoid causing harm or shifting emissions elsewhere. Our future participation in carbon markets is guided by five key pillars: 1) Originate high‑integrity carbon credits to meet growing obligations, acquiring credits only where necessary. 2) Maximise value from any surplus credits that are not linked to future compliance or voluntary commitments. 3) Support decarbonisation business cases by identifying opportunities for incremental carbon credit revenue. 4) Anticipate regulatory changes and position the business to meet obligations at the lowest‑cost abatement. 5) Strengthen cross‑functional governance to maximise value, maintain optionality and manage reputational risks.

Accounting for carbon offset credits
Accounting for carbon offset credits
Orica is committed to transparency in how we manage and account for carbon offset credits, particularly given our unique position as both as an offset credit originator and a participant in compliance markets. Offset credits carry emissions reduction claims for quantified carbon abatement made under a relevant GHG program. To ensure integrity in our climate reporting, we apply strict rules to prevent double counting of emissions reductions. Emissions reductions are only claimed when offset credits are cancelled by the issuing authority. Emissions reductions are not claimed if Orica sells offset credits into secondary markets.
