At Orica, we carry out continuous monitoring and annual monitoring of air emissions using multiple onsite sources. The air pollutants we monitor include nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter with a diameter of 10 micrometres or less. Continuous monitoring supports our plant operators in executing processes that minimise pollutant emissions.

In 2011, Orica completed a project to reduce NOx emissions from the ammonia plant by installing a purge gas scrubber and replacing furnace gas burners with low-NOx burners.

In 2023, Orica installed nitrogen dioxide abatement technology across all three nitric acid plants to minimise emissions.

In 2024, Orica installed particulate scrubbing technology to reduce particulate emissions from the number one ammonium nitrate plant prill tower.
