Prill tower monitoring

Orica Kooragang Island's prill tower scrubber, which commenced operation in September 2024, reduces ammonium nitrate particulate emissions to air by more than 95 per cent.

Emissions from the prill tower scrubber stack (monitoring point 40) are monitored through annual stack testing. Testing results are reported, in accordance with Orica Kooragang Island's Environment Protection Licence.

Scrubber performance is also monitored continuously using an opacity meter—primarily for process-control purposes—and provides indicative data only. A formal calibration process for the opacity meter came into effect on 1 July 2025.
Due to the indicative nature of the opacity data, results are reported using a traffic‑light system. Daily averages are calculated from hourly block averages over a 24‑hour period and reported monthly. The most recent results are provided below with links to historical data also available.
