4D Clear

Precision blasting with reduced fume risk.

content-intro-logo

Energy-based design for compliance and environmental responsibility.

The 4D™ Clear system is designed for surface mining operations where environmental sensitivity and fume control are critical. By shifting from density-based design to energy-based design, 4D™ Clear enables precise energy control for safer, more sustainable blasting. Available across Fortis™, Fortan™ and Aquacharge™, this system helps mines maintain compliance while delivering consistent blast outcomes in wet, dry, or dewatered conditions.

Case study

Using 4D to reduce powder factor in soft, wet ground.

See how the 4D™ system reduced the average bulk strength of explosives by 20% and reduced the overall powder factor by 12% compared to conventional pumped emulsion blends. No fume was observed
during the demonstration blast and dig rates were no lower than those in conventional blasts.

Available brands of 4D Clear

Fortis and Aquacharge brands

Our 4D™ systems are designed to match variable geology and blast hole conditions, and the 4D™ Clear product is available across Fortis™, and Aquacharge™ brands—providing the flexibility to select the right delivery method and product for wet, dewatered or dry applications.

Fortis 4D™
Delivered as a pumped emulsion, Fortis 4D™ is designed for wet, dewatered and dry blast holes, providing consistent and reliable blast performance across multiple ground and hole conditions.

Aquacharge™ 4D
Delivered via auger, Aquacharge™ 4D is a low‑cost, water‑resistant solution designed for damp, wet and dewatered blast holes. It provides enhanced water resistance compared to traditional heavy ANFO‑type products, with flexible density and energy selection to suit site‑specific requirements.

Further insights

From density‑based to energy‑based blast design

Traditional bulk explosives systems rely on density‑based design, where explosive performance is determined by physical density. Because each product has a fixed energy profile, flexibility is limited—often requiring multiple products or complex decking to manage changes in geology and blasthole conditions.

4D™ introduces energy‑based design. Instead of focusing on density, 4D™ measures and controls the energy delivered into the blasthole. This shift allows blast energy to be precisely tailored to the geology and desired outcomes—without changing products.

Key differences

Conventional bulk systems

  • Fixed density per product, limiting energy adjustment between holes.
  • Multiple products required to manage varying ground conditions.
  • Greater design complexity and variability in outcomes.

4D™ systems

  • Energy—not density—drives blast performance .
  • Energy can be adjusted hole‑to‑hole using a single emulsion and gasser combination.
  • Delivers the industry’s widest Relative Bulk Strength (RBS) range Simplifies blast design and improves consistency.
